Family tech
agreements

A family tech agreement is a short plan for how your family uses phones, tablets, games and apps. You make it together, so everyone knows what to expect and what to do if something goes wrong.
Choose the agreement for your child's stage. Fill it in together on screen, then print it or save it as a PDF.
Why it helps

Connection over control

Settings and controls have their place. Your relationship with your child, and the conversations you have, protect them far better.

  • Connection

Agreeing together builds trust. Your child is far more likely to come to you when something goes wrong.

  • Clarity

Everyone knows what is expected, including the grown-ups. Fewer arguments, more calm.

  • Confidence

It gives your child a plan for tricky moments, before they happen.

Stages, not ages

Pick the stage for your child today

Every child is different. Choose the agreement for where your child is now. Move on, or go back, whenever you like.

How it works

Four steps, one conversation

  1. 1

    Read Start here

It takes about 5 minutes. You get three questions to think about, five tips for the conversation and starter questions for each stage.

  2. 2

    Choose your stage

Go to the lesson for your child today. Each one opens with what the stage often looks like, topics to talk about and skills to build together.

  3. 3

    Fill it in together

Type your answers into the boxes. Let your child go first. Your answers save on this device and nobody else sees them.

  4. 4

Print it and keep it where you will see it

Print your agreement or save it as a PDF. The fridge works well.

A wobble isn't a failure. It's a chance to talk, learn and adjust your agreement together.

When to come back to it
  • A new device
  • A new app or game
  • A new school year
  • Birthdays
  • After a wobble
  • Every few months
